Storefront and account region

Shadowrocket is not available on the mainland China storefront. Whether you can purchase it depends first on the country or region associated with your Apple ID.

Check the account used for purchases

The country or region associated with your Apple ID determines which App Store you see. Your physical location, device language, and the storefront used by a web product page do not determine the store region of your purchase account. A product page may open in a browser even when the account on your device cannot complete the purchase.

Open Settings on your device, tap your Apple ID at the top, then go to Media & Purchases → View Account and check Country/Region. Also confirm that the account signed in here is the one you plan to use to buy Shadowrocket or used to buy it before. The iCloud account on a device can differ from its purchase account, so check carefully when restoring a purchase.

Region settings and purchase prompts

To view or change your region, go to Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region. If you need to change it, follow the conditions and prompts shown by the system. This guide points to the relevant settings; it cannot guarantee that every account can change regions.

Account balance, active subscriptions, Family Sharing settings, and payment details can affect a region change. Don’t change multiple account settings just to clear a single prompt. Read the reason shown on screen before deciding what to do. Once you’re on a storefront where the app can be purchased, verify all three details below. The amount shown at checkout is the amount to rely on.

[General]

Verify the app: check all three details

Use the app name to find the listing. To verify the product, check that the developer name, official icon, and app ID all match.

Developer: Shadow Launch Technology Limited

Open the product page and check the developer name; don’t rely only on the title in search results. A similar name or matching keyword is not a substitute for developer information. Before confirming your purchase, check the developer spelling again. If it doesn’t match, return to the product page and verify the listing rather than assuming it is the same app.

Icon: rocket outlined in blue and purple on white

Compare it with the official icon in this site’s header: a blue-and-purple outlined rocket on a white background. The icon is one of three checks, not proof on its own. Even if it looks similar, verify the developer and app ID too. Check the app name, icon, and description together instead of relying on search ranking.

App ID: 932747118

The product page linked from the App Store button on this page contains id932747118 in its URL. This number identifies the specific app and does not change with your device’s display language. Check the full number in the web address, not just a few digits. If you see similar search results, return to the button at the top of this page and open the specified product page before purchasing.

iPhone: purchase, installation, and first launch

On your iPhone, open the App Store link at the top of this page. After verifying all three details, confirm the purchase at the price and payment prompt shown by the App Store. The App Store handles installation, payment confirmation, and download progress. Refer to the listing for system requirements. Before purchasing, expand the compatibility details on the product page and check that your device meets them. Don’t rely on system versions mentioned in older guides as a fixed standard.

If the download remains pending after you confirm the purchase, check for an incomplete account verification or payment prompt, then check available storage and your network connection. Note the exact error message shown by the system to distinguish a purchase failure from a pending download or installation issue. If you haven’t confirmed that the purchase was recorded, don’t pay again; check your App Store account for the transaction first.

Authorize the VPN configuration on first connection

When you first open the app, you can explore Home, but connecting requires valid server details. Import your own information using Add Server, select a server, and turn on the connection toggle. When you connect for the first time, the system may ask to add a VPN configuration. After confirming that Shadowrocket initiated the request, follow the system prompts to authorize it and authenticate.

Adding a VPN configuration authorizes the system to establish the corresponding network connection. It does not buy the app again or provide a server address, password, or subscription. If you previously declined authorization, return to Home and try connecting again; watch for the system prompt. If your device is managed by an organization and VPN configurations are restricted, check its device management requirements. Not every authorization failure is caused by the app.

Installation and connection are two separate checks: seeing the app as installed in the App Store only confirms that it’s on your device. After selecting a server in Home and connecting, run Connectivity Test as well. For the import and connection steps, see the official quick-start guide. If the app is installed but the connection isn’t working, see troubleshooting.

iPad: install a purchase from the same account

A single purchase with the same Apple ID lets you install Shadowrocket on compatible iPhone and iPad devices. If you bought it on your iPhone, first check that Media & Purchases on your iPad is signed in with the original purchase account. Then look for the app under Account and Purchased in the App Store. Don’t assume that the App Store account is the same just because both devices use the same iCloud account.

Refer to the App Store listing for system requirements and purchase eligibility. If the product page still shows a price, stop before confirming a purchase and check your purchase history and account instead of paying again. If your device reports that it’s incompatible, return to the product page and check compatibility. Having purchased the app does not guarantee it can be installed on every system version.

Layouts differ; the checks are the same

The iPad’s screen space and current window size can change how lists and editing screens appear. Use labels such as Home, Add Server, Global Routing, and Config to find your way around rather than relying on the exact position of a control in a screenshot. When adding a server, check Type, Host, Port, and the relevant authentication fields one by one. Don’t mix information required by different protocols.

An app installed on another device does not mean its server list and Config have been restored to a new device. First check what data is actually available on your iPad. If you need to import it again, use your own saved subscription or server details, then authorize the VPN configuration on the current device. After importing, select a server, check Global Routing, then connect and test.

Compatibility on other Apple devices

The compatibility section of the same App Store listing includes Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision. The App Store remains the only place to get the app. Check the listing for supported devices, system requirements, and whether the purchase is universal. The detailed installation and first-connection instructions on this page focus on iPhone and iPad; don’t assume the steps or control locations are the same on other devices.

New device and restore: redownload your purchase

Sign in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase and redownload Shadowrocket from Purchased in the App Store. You won’t be charged again for the app. Restoring a purchase requires the original account and a valid purchase record, not the old device or its installed copy. Deleting and reinstalling the app or switching devices does not count as a new purchase each time.

  1. On your new device, check which account is signed in to Media & Purchases and confirm it’s the Apple ID used to buy Shadowrocket.
  2. Open App Store → Account → Purchased and look for Shadowrocket. Section names may vary slightly between system versions; use the app purchase list in your account.
  3. Open the listing, verify the developer and icon, tap the redownload option, and complete any verification prompts.
  4. After installation, check Home and Config for existing data, then restore your own subscriptions, server details, and configuration files.

If a price appears, check your purchase history first

If you see a price instead of a redownload option, don’t assume you have to buy the app again just because you changed devices. First check that you’re signed in to the right App Store account, then look for the purchase in your history and check whether your region or account status affects what’s displayed. Similar search results can also be misleading, so verify the developer and app ID again.

To find out whether Family Sharing applies to your purchase, check the App Store listing and the applicable terms in your device’s Family Sharing settings. Don’t assume an individual purchase automatically covers every family member. Purchase history, family access, and device compatibility are separate checks; installation on one device doesn’t prove that every other account can install the app.

Redownloading the app does not restore all your settings

Your purchase history records your right to download the app. Restore servers, subscription links, Config, and related authentication details from your own backup or information provided by your service provider. If existing data is missing, check for an available backup before choosing how to import it. Avoid repeatedly importing data until you know its status, or you may create duplicate entries in Home.

After restoring, check the server type, address, and port one by one. Select the default server, confirm the Global Routing mode, then connect and run Connectivity Test. A server that worked on your old device may no longer be valid. If the connection fails, first check the status of your existing service, the imported fields, and your rules. Keep migration links and authentication details secure; don’t publicly share information that includes full credentials.

Pricing and purchase: app versus service

Shadowrocket costs $2.99 as a one-time purchase on the US storefront. The actual amount is shown on the App Store product page and payment confirmation screen. Other storefronts show prices in local currencies, so don’t use the US price to determine what you’ll pay elsewhere. Check the price shown in your account’s storefront before purchasing, then verify the transaction in that account’s purchase history.

A one-time payment covers the app itself; there is no monthly app charge. Where eligible, you can redownload it with the original purchase account without paying again after reinstalling. Refer to the App Store listing for cross-device eligibility and other purchase terms. Don’t infer rights for every device from the site name or from installation on just one device.

Check the app purchase and your existing service separately

After installing the app, import a subscription or server details you already have. The client reads configuration and handles connections according to your rules. Check server availability, authentication details, and service expiration using your own service information. An App Store purchase record cannot tell you whether an external server service is active.

If you’ve bought the app but Home has no available servers, first prepare your own valid details, then use Add Server or the subscription import steps. Buying the app again won’t solve this. If you’ve imported your details but the test fails, check the fields, selected server, and Global Routing rather than confusing the connection result with the app’s purchase price.

App updates are handled through the App Store

Check for and install future app updates in the App Store. You can also use automatic updates through your device’s store settings. Back up any Config and server details you need before updating, then check your current configuration and connection afterward. Refer to the App Store and information available in the app for features, compatibility, and update history. This page does not list a fixed version or update date.

This page explains how to verify the app, purchase it, and restore your purchase. To learn the difference between Config, Proxy, and Direct or look up field definitions, see the glossary. Once the app is installed, continue with importing your details and making your first connection rather than looking for another way to get it.

Download and purchase FAQs

First identify whether the issue concerns the storefront, purchase history, device compatibility, or connection settings, then follow the relevant steps.

Why can’t I find Shadowrocket on the App Store?

Shadowrocket is not available on the mainland China storefront. The country or region associated with your Apple ID determines which App Store content you can see. Check it under Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → View Account → Country/Region. Whether you can change your region depends on your account status and the prompts shown by the system; a change is not guaranteed to succeed.

The product page opens, but the download won’t start. What should I check?

First determine whether the issue is a purchase problem or a stalled download. If you can’t purchase, check the signed-in account, storefront region, payment method, and billing prompts. If the download is stalled, check available storage, network access, and system compatibility. Refer to the App Store listing for system requirements and note any error message before troubleshooting further.

Do I have to pay again to download Shadowrocket on a new device?

Sign in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase, then find Shadowrocket under App Store → Account → Purchased and download it again. You won’t be charged again for the app. If a price still appears, check the account and purchase history first. Redownloading the app does not restore servers, subscriptions, or Config; those are separate steps.

I bought Shadowrocket on my iPhone. Can I install it on my iPad too?

Yes. A single purchase with the same Apple ID lets you install Shadowrocket on compatible iPhone and iPad devices. On your iPad, first make sure Media & Purchases is signed in with the original purchase account, then check Purchased. See the App Store listing for system requirements and purchase eligibility.

Where can I get Shadowrocket for Mac, Apple TV, or Apple Vision?

The compatibility section of the same App Store listing includes Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision. The App Store remains the only place to get the app. Check the listing for supported devices, system requirements, and whether the purchase is universal.

The app is in English. Where should I start?

Follow the labels shown in the app: use Home to view the server list, Add Server to add your own server or subscription, Global Routing to choose Config, Proxy, or Direct, and Config to manage configuration files. Import your own valid details, select a server, and connect. Then run Connectivity Test to check the connection.
